I think it’s fair to say that chill genres are a major next phase of dance music. There’s so much out there, and so much is good. This week features tracks with touching r&b/soul vocals with very slow tempos as well as up-beat future bass-ish hybrids. Dive into a few selects we have been digging on this week.
Vanessa Elisha – Midnight Swim (Sean Turk Remix)
Sean Turk has popped up on the scene with fresh remixes that move you. “Midnight Swim (Sean Turk Remix)” is only his second release, but still contains those elements that his first remix “DJ Snake – Middle (Sean Turk Remix Ft. Jessame)” has, that make him stand out. Sean Turk isn’t going anywhere in 2016.
BOBBY NOURMAND – S I S T E R
BOBBY NOURMAND is of the most unique artist on the list. He seems to enjoy transforming classic oldies into something completely fresh and all it’s own. “SISTER” converts Billy Idol’s “White Wedding” into a deep house sound that will blow your mind. I had the chance to see Bobby live during MMW and lets just say the curtain matches the drapes – his set enhances the elements that make him outstanding.
Mishegas – Home
Mishegas is like if Chet Porter and Gryffin has a baby. It combines unique percussion elements you’ve never heard before, very light poppy/hook moments, and a deep focus vibe to convey a feeling that is one of the kind. “Home” is one of my favorite finds this week.
Alfiya Glow – Ready 4 U EP
Based out of Philly, Alfiya Glow is one of the more upbeat chill songs on the list. The solo artist not only produces and DJ’s, but also kills it on the violin. Her tracks feature many outstanding aesthetics, with a future house/deep house core. “Ready 4 U EP” is a hybrid of many chill genres and makes for a great experience that can easily be enjoyed again and again.
Samuel Proffitt & Josh Jacobson – Andre
I always like to put something slow and sentimental as the last track on the Unwind The Mind playlist. Samuel Proffitt & Josh Jacobson’s “Andre” is the perfect closer. A super slow tempo, a little 808, and heart-melting vocals is a combination that stands on its own. If this track inspires you give it a little love on HypeM too.
