On August 1-2 the beach in Atlantic City, New Jersey will be taken over by bass, synthesizers, lights and lovely vibes thanks to Electric Adventure: Bloom. They’ve upped their ante with more than double the amount of acts and stages compared to last summer’s fest. With so much powerful music on the bill we’ve chosen five must-see acts at EAB – miss these sets at your own peril.
Figure
Figure is THE dubstep turn-up at Electric Adventure, with the dirtiest bass of any act on the lineup outside of perhaps Zomboy. It was only a few years ago that Josh Gard (aka Figure) began making dubstep and drumstep, but his sauce is as good as any big name like Excision or Datsik. Many peers consider his live performance skills to be some of the best in bass music, and he stays steady-embracing the hard, filthy roots of dubstep. If you lose your footing while head banging, that’s ok – you’ll just fall in the sand.
Griz
Whether you’re into house music, dubstep, techno, DnB or new-wave folk for that matter, Griz will make you dance. His catchy tunes play well to all ears, and though we call him a glitch-hop artist he loves to play straight soul, disco and funk tracks during sets. If you prefer the place to be mashed up dub-style, Grant (aka Griz) has bass for days and he’s not afraid to use it. With saxophone in hand, Griz will spread love far and wide at EAB.
Keys n Krates
With a host of trap artists on the lineup, Keys n Krates stands out from the rest. The Canadian duo brings the bounce in an unorthodox manner, constantly blurring the lines between beats and drops, bass and melodies. Underneath classic, crisp claps and snares, Keys n Krates loves incorporating low end bass that blends well with their fantastic selection of hip-hop samples. At the same time, their synths soar through tracks, bringing ethereal elation to any listener.
Morgan Page
As far as progressive house goes Morgan Page is at the top of the game, and has been for quite some time. His vocal sampling is always on point, lovingly tearing at the heartstrings of the audience. His synth progressions take you on an ecstatic journey. What’s more, his music is just tasteful – you won’t find Page dropping the same top 10 house tracks that the other DJ just played. Instead, his creative and uplifting dance beats will refresh your ears and your body – the perfect soundtrack for bumping on the beach.
Pretty Lights
With almost ten years in the EDM game, PL’s wobbly, multi-directional electro soul music is more sought after than water during festival season. His catalogue is incredibly diverse, and his live production skills are second to none. Derek Vincent Smith (aka Pretty Lights) has the potential to break your neck by inducing a vicious head bang or cramp your legs by forcing you to boogie until you can’t remember your last name. What’s more, his light show more than lives up to its name. It’s truly a multi-sensory experience not to be missed.
