Followers…we are in the final hours before North Coast Music Festival, and I hope you all are as excited as we are.
Before we all head to the Union Park with our highlighted set list in hand, we wanted to highlight some of the local DJs that will be featured at the Heineken House Lounge, and try to add a couple artists to your list while you’re at it.
A quick history lesson just in case you did not know; in the late 70’s early 80’s House music was birthed in Chicago. DJ Wayne Williams was one of those artists who contributed to its start. In ’77 Williams started a non-profit with other DJs in the the house movement called “The Chosen Few DJs”. “The Chosen Few” work to upkeep the history and education of House and Electronic Dance Music.
The attendees of North Coast Music Festival this year are going to get the opportunity to see Wayne Williams, Jesse Saunders, and Alan King who are all part of the non-profit organization.
Alan King has been in the game for about 30 years now and has been cited as “Best of Chicago.” King who is a lawyer by day and a DJ by night is said to have some of the most original house music that is true to his personality.
Jesse Saunders, who is a Chicago native, worked his way up from the bottom and through word of mouth got to where he is today. Jesse was the first person to ever get a major label recording deal for a house music artist.
Wayne Williams who is a Grammy nominated artist has done ground breaking work in the realm of house music. The transition of House music from underground clubs to the south side of Chicago has been credited to Williams. The artist has played all around the world and has worked with numerous celebrities.
If you want the chance to connect with the roots of Chicago House music, I highly suggesting catching all three of their sets.
