Das Energi Festival Artist Spotlight: Spencer Brown

Das Energi Festival will be returning for its sixth installment at The Great Saltair in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 17 and 18. Over the course of two days, The Great Saltair will become home to thousands of attendees and a brimming roster of talented artists, one of those being Anjunabeats’ rising star, Spencer Brown.

Now that we’re officially half past 2018, we can confidently say, this is the year of Spencer Brown! Let’s back up a bit and give you some backstory. San Francisco based DJ/producer, Spencer Brown was first discovered by the late Avicii and his manager, Ash Pournouri. In 2014, his debut release on Avicii’s LE7ELS, Chalice EP, which garnered over 1.5 million plays, caught the attention of the legendary trio, Above & Beyond. Since then, Brown has dropped a whirlwind of EP’s on Above & Beyond’s acclaimed Anjunabeats label. Now let’s fast forward to this past May, Brown released his debut album, Illusion of Perfection, which in our opinion is his best work to date. Illusion of Perfection is unlike many albums out today, it’s presented in a continuous mix format, taking you on a 58 minute progressive journey from start to finish. Spencer Brown’s production style is innovative and limitless, he doesn’t stick to one genre, instead incorporates aspects of progressive house, trance, and techno into his art.

We said 2018 was his year, not solely due to his incredible debut album, but the fact that he served as major support for Above & Beyond’s massive Common Ground tour. His tour life does not end there, continuing his time on the road for the remainder of the year with extended sets in major cities and festivals worldwide, including Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Electric Zoo, and Das Energi Festival.

We’ve praised his work as a producer already, but that praise follows into his DJ performances. His sets are never pre-made, but rather sticks to the ideology of reading the crowd and creating a musical experience.
