Estiva has been grinding hard with music during the 2019 year. It’s only September and he’s logged 11 original tracks with a collaboration with Dezza and a couple remixes. For those in the dark about Estiva, he has a sound that is clearly evolving to a more driving and progressive style. The artist is making moves to stand alone with with a unique sound. His new EP Sequence/Trip is right on par with the progressive sound that has already gained him support from Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz and more.
The first track on the EP “Sequence” starts with a progressive bassline layered with glitchy stabs and a dark progressive melodic arp that seamlessly brings you into the breakdown. Then a new lead synth comes in bringing in a new melody reminiscent of the trance of old at a much slower BPM. The melody smoothly fades into a minimal build up and extremely smooth drop. Afterwards it continues to progress a little more before hitting the outro, making the track come full circle.
The next track is titled “Trip.” The tone of the track is on a similar vibe as “Sequence” but there’s little more phasing effects going on. The bassline has a few layers and gives the sense of a rapid firing trigger bass. Once the breakdown comes a falling plucky melody comes in with a riser that seems to never end. This ever so subtle build up raises the tension until the drop comes when you don’t really expect it too. The falling pluck melody sustains throughout the next phrase only for delays and reverbs to eventually wash out the clarity and give a further sense of space building for the next phrase.
This moody and dark two-track EP is exactly what we are looking for when we want a break from the run-of-the-mill, cheap thrills EDM.
