With the announcement of the Anjunabeats Volume 10 launch party on February 16 at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC, I decided that a weekend Group Therapy getaway was mandatory. Even in the middle of winter, the presence of Jono, Paavo, or Tony and their trance anthems is enough to make you forget time and place for a couple of hours (have you listened to their 2011 Essential Mix?!).
This Saturday, Norin & Rad, Andrew Bayer, and Beckwith will kick off the night, and I have no doubt that the Trance Family will come from all around the country to celebrate the new compilation and take in all of those uplifting, inspirational, and somewhat cheesy messages that always occupy the LED screens in Above & Beyond‘s live shows.
For a group as prolific as this trance trio, it’s so hard to choose only five favorite tracks – and to not choose Sun & Moon. But I’ve shared a few that have made me a loyal follower of A&B and their Anjunabeats label.
1) On My Way To Heaven – Above & Beyond Club Mix
The somber violins and soaring voice of Richard Belford evolve into a punchy break in this Club Mix that blew me away during Above & Beyond’s set in the Dance Forest at Virgin Mobile Freefest last October.
2) Alchemy – Myon & Shane 54 Redemption Mix
Most of my friends prefer the original version of this track with Zoe Johnston, but I think Myon & Shane 54 added another dimension. This remix gained a huge following in fall, and for a good reason.
3) You Got To Go – Kyau & Albert Remix OR Seven Lions Remix
Two totally different but equally incredible remixes. There’s a time and place for each.
4) Satellite
Jono + Paavo + Tony + Justine Suissa vocals = Oceanlab, the collaboration that gave us gems like ‘Breaking Ties’, ‘On A Good Day’, and ‘Lonely Girl’.
5) Far From In love
The debut single from McGuinness, Grant, and Siljamaki in 2002 sounds as good today as it did then.
See you in New York this weekend!
