5 Artists Not to Be Missed at Ultra Miami 2017

Ultra Music Festival is a dominate staple in American and global music dance culture. The amount of people touched by the music and the entire week’s events is second to none, which proves their history of two decades, still going strong. The artists that make the Ultra lineup going through an intense process where only those that hold a certain quality and caliber can make the final cut. This year’s lineup is no different and features some of the best and brightest, from massive headliners to hot up-and-comers. View the full lineup here. With so many options, we wanted to share our five artists that shouldn’t be missed.

Cypress Hill

Cypress Hill being at Ultra is one the most ultimate throwback experiences you can have at this event. Cypress Hill had their first phase of popularity in the 90’s around the time Beastie Boys were big. They were one of the first white rap groups to gain serious recognizable fame that changed the groups lives forever. Songs like “Insane In The Brain” and “Lowrider” are still stoner classic songs that eare mainstream to this day.

This reunion show will be one of the most epic moments of Ultra, where thousands will be able to experience these throwbacks in person, and acts as a unique juxtaposition to all the electronic dance music going on during the weekend.

Justice

If you don’t know Justice, get out from under the rock, the duo are living legends and were making electronic hits during the late 2000’s phase of USA-based electronic dance music. The 2007 album Cross transformed what we knew about electronic and paved the way for such genres as dubstep to have their full effect on the USA market a few years later. Their legacy still continues on today with another full album release entiteld Women, released in 2016, which has been critically-acclaimed, widely praised, and supported by the fans.

Justice focuses on a house / disco platform with their music, but showcases an array of diverse and expansive sounds centered around this platform. There are always surprises during their sets so make your way to their stage at Ultra Miami when the time comesMalaa

Malaa

There is alot of mystery surrounding who Malaa is, they have appeared as 1, 2 or 3 people, adding to the confusion. However many people are on the stage, there is a single element that they have in common, identities are hidden via ski masks and some of the most cutting edge house music that is currently out there is played. Now, some say Malaa is DJ Snake, some say Tchami, or maybe another, there is a little bit of evidence to support some claims, but no one knows for sure. Malaa’s brand is certainly mysterious all around, from the dark artwork, to the dark sound and live appearance. The best way to see what all the hype is about is to experience Malaa live first hand.=

Slushii

Slushii slid right into the spotlight as Marshmello was taking off. The two DJs have alot in common but on thing is for certain, Slushii’s music stands out against any artist. Slushii’s sound is a mixture of colorful vibes, head turning melodies and hooks, and an electro / trance genre core. His ability to dynamically extract happy and sad sounds without sounding too different or experimental from this base is incomparable. The dude is down to earth too, on his socials you can find posts from him encouraging other young producers to work on their craft because he was an unknown bedroom producer not too long ago as well. Slushii is managed by Red Light management so it is no surprise that his streaming channels reflect millions of plays and he is on the road constantly. The liveshow is totally a strong and vivid reflection of his music and should not be missed.

Gryffin

Gryffin is one of this first artist to pop up out of the post-tropical house movement showcasing something different. He brought the cloud-soulful feeling from the West Coast dance music scene and fused it with the poppy melodies of chill house. The result was something that millions upon millions have heard and thousands have experienced. Gryffin’s biggest hit to date is “Whole Heart,” which is the epitome of a commercially viable pop / future bass release mixed with his cloudy style. The lyrics of this single are icing on the cake as it leads to a luscious future bass drop.

Gryffin has been a touring machine as of late as well, last fall his did a US tour hitting around a dozen dates, this year he’s been a festival freak, landing on several already and festival season is just beginning. The dude is in his prime and still climbing – a perfect time to experience him while he is hot is right at Ultra at the end of March.
