Groove Cruise Cabo Artist Spotlight: Secondcity

Groove Cruise Cabo sets sail tomorrow and many of us have already flooded the city of motion, eager to hop on board and start our four day cruise into paradise. While we have been awaiting word of the official set times to drop, it doesn’t keep us from getting hyped with handpicked playlists, Groove Cruise Radio episodes, and watching clips from last year’s voyage. For this sail into the Pacific, Groove Cruise has garnered a stacked lineup, ranging from house addicts’ favorites like Shiba San and MK, to our favorite green mohawked techno tastemaker Green Velvet, to all the beautiful trance anyone could ask for with Kristine Sky, Adam Scott, and Factor B getting us in our feels. One artist on this lineup that we are beyond ecstatic to see is house influencer, Secondcity.

Personally, we first caught on to this artist from his single released earlier this year, “Never Been in Love”, a nu disco floor burner that literally lit up our souls. The fast tempo, impeccable vocals, and overall funky as hell melodies had us putting this on repeat. So, of course, when we saw that he was going to join us on Groove Cruise this year, we had to share and dig in ourselves about who Secondcity is. Born in Chicago and growing up on his mom’s house music for aerobics classes before diving into the club scene after moving to the UK, Rowan Harrington has created a confection from the best of both worlds when it comes to his approach to the genre.

After playing at loads of parties for his friends over a 10 year span, Harrington had to decide to either continue to follow the path of his current career in the corporate world or really commit to making his own music. Lucky for us, he dropped it all to follow his passion and kicked off his music journey in 2013 with his first four track EP The Story, a deep house collection supported on Huxley’s Saints and Sonnets imprint. He then began to be championed by the likes of Skream, Kenny Pope, MK, and Nic Fanciulli. Soon after he set the charts ablaze with his debut single, “I Wanna Feel”, solidifying him as an artist in house music and made him a contender amongst his peers. The single rose to number one on BBC Radio 1 singles chart, garnered over 58 million views on YouTube to date, and was backed by UK house heavyweight duo Disclosure.

Fast forward to 2018, Harrington has built a lengthy discography at an incredible rate within just a few years in the industry. From releasing his follow up hit, “What Can I Do”, that held onto everyone’s ears for weeks to his Dirtybird premiere with “I Enter” that took over the charts on Beatport, it was quickly realized that Secondcity was someone you wanted to work with and support. When he dropped “Groove N’ On” in 2014, it started a domino effect when it came to helping to produce and remix tracks for influencers like Nic Fanciulli, Carl Cox, Dimitri Nakov and John Monkman. Since then, Harrington has grown his project to incredible heights and is always getting heavy radio rotation whenever he releases something new.

From playing across some of the world’s biggest festival stages like Glastonbury, Creamfields, Hideout, and Hard Summer to consistently landing residencies and gigs at Ibizia’s top clubs, Harrington has absolutely made an imprint within the hearts and minds of house heads. He has this way of creating this funky beat that takes you into that perfect moment we have all experienced on the dance floor, having us return again and again to any club, show, or festival. He has perfected the addictive sound that hooks us all to the electronic music scene.
