After releasing his stunning remix of Adventure Club‘s ‘Need Your Heart‘ for free, Minnesota is back with a killer EP. The five track work is correctly titled ‘Altered States’, you’ll see why shortly. Each track gives off a relaxing vibe, something you won’t hear from many dubstep producers. The five records include ‘Indian Summer’, ‘Float’, ‘Tokyo’, ‘Yoga Pants’, and ‘To The Floor’.
I’ll start with ‘Indian Summer’ which is the most psychedelic of the five, this record houses beautiful ambient sounds but keeps the structure and bass that Minnesota is known for. Then there is ‘Float’ which traces back to Minnesota’s love for hiphop. He recruited Zion I to rap over the beat, the duo are surrounded by light glitchy wobbles and a lingering melody. One of my favorite tracks on the EP is ‘Tokyo’, it has the ambient feel of ‘Indian Summer’ mixed with heavy trap sounds and vocal samples similar to ‘To The Floor’. This leads me to ‘Yoga Pants’, a record you may already be familiar with. This track mixes just about everything you’ll hear on the EP into one record, trap, hiphop, dubstep and a hint of ambient for good measure.
