Summer might be officially over, but winter has still yet to come. Until it’s time to post up at the dark and dirty warehouses, we’ve been listening to more upbeat, groovy, and even quirky kind of techno. Don’t get us wrong, each of this week’s tracks will definitely send you on a nice ride down the rabbit hole, but in an oddly uplifting manner. On the lineup, we’ve got some serious bangers from players like Almost Automatic, Julian Jeweil, Jay Lumen, Len Faki, and CJ Jeff. Press play, repeat, and enjoy.
Almost Automatic – Running
To kick things off this week, we’ve got a quirky mix from the mysteries new talent, Almost Automatic. Out now on Tiger Stripes’ new label Strange Idols Recordings, it was first released as a vinyl earlier this summer before premiering on all other music services just this week. The beat is made up of a handful of puzzling layers and strong punches, strung along by bouncy vocals. To sum it up, it’s wacky and wildly addicting.

Julian Jeweil – Answer
French DJ and producer Julian Jeweil has been absolutely killing it this year on Drumcode Records. While we’ve already delved deep into the entirety of his new Space EP, we couldn’t help but to add one of our favorite tracks to this week’s roundup. All five of the tracks part of his latest EP are superb, but we’ve taken a particular liking to “Answer.” Drumcode Radio listeners might be very familiar with this one as it was featured on DCR368 Live from Loveland with Adam Beyer. Made up of an incredible pulsating beat, heavy stabs, and an arousing build-up, it’s got every element necessary to light a raging fire on the dance floor.

Jay Lumen – Consciousness
The ever-so-talented, Budpest-native DJ and producer Jay Lumen adds another winner to his long roster of Beatport hit singles. His latest masterpiece comes in the form of the track “Consciousness.” Out now on Octopus Records, it’s packed with hard-hitting punches, robotic vocals, and a steady, infectious beat that will get you moving.

Len Faki, Frankie Bones – Bump Your Head (Len Faki Hardspace Mix, Hardspace Tool)
We can all take a note from Len Faki’s charitable efforts and top-notch remixing skills. This maven of techno has taken the classic banger “Bump Your Head” by Frankie Bones and released two heavy new remixes on his recently established non-profit platform, LF RMX. Here’s how to best explain the difference between these two equally killer remixes: “The new ‘Hardspace Mix’ bolsters up the characteristic vocal and synths for even more frantic effect, but trades in the percussion for Faki’s signature assault of claps and hats. These also dominate the stripped-back ‘Hardspace Tool,’ which carefully builds momentum only around the sirens and some seriously sizzling low-end rumble. Both of Faki’s personal mixes capture the original’s raw energy, yet manage to appear in both sleek but powerful presence.’ All of the proceeds from the record will be donated to the Berlin-based charity project to battle child poverty, Straßenkinder e.V.

CJ Jeff – Go West
Grecian DJ and producer CJ Jeff has made quite the name for himself with releases on some of the most notable labels in the industry. He continues to bring the fire with his most recent work Shots in the Dark EP. It’s his solo debut outing on Objektivity and is said to be a sure career marker. Out now, this two-track EP lends itself more to the tech-house realm, with the exception of the first track “Go West.” Bumping with plenty of punch, frenetic percussion, and an overall dark beat, you’ll find it difficult to refrain from playing this on repeat.
