If you’re wondering what happens when two of the most prominent names in psychedelic bass music come together for an evening of non-stop exploratory aural experiences, look no further than Psymbionic and The Widdler’s winter tour – which touched down in Richmond, VA at the Canal Club on Friday. Presented by east coast bass music experts Badass Raves, the show took place in the middle of downtown Richmond in a venue known for its dark, enclosed environment that begs for bass music and elicits vibes from the days of underground raves.
Taking the stage first was The Widdler – birth name Yoni Oron – is a Tel Aviv native who has since made his way to become an icon in the US’s East Coast bass music scene. Oron has been experimenting with playing and producing music in all of its forms since childhood – enabling him to become familiar with musical theory in ways that reverberate throughout his music today. While his roots are in bass and percussion influenced music, he has a unique taste for psychedelic dub and is largely known as an innovator and icon in the deep dubstep scene.
Over the course of the past few years, John Burcham has been taking over dancefloors as Psymbionic, leaving his own permanent imprint on the bass music scene. Known for collaborating on tracks and events with artists from Bassnectar to Big Gigantic and Tipper, Psymbionic’s music seems to know no limits – and the sets on this tour are no exception. His sets are f0cused around the idea of “flow,” as related to music, a concept that Burcham believes has been stripped away from the electronic music scene in favor of sets that rise and drop to the point of predictability. Intricate compositions mixing of melodic and psychedelic basslines and low bass frequencies cultivate soundscapes that are uniquely his own, and different for every set. We firmly believe that Psymbionics sets are a musical escapade that needs to be experienced first hand – so If you want to experience the tour for yourself, click here to check out tour dates and ticket options. Remember to buckle your seatbelt, kids! It’s about to get deep, dark and otherworldly.
