Finally the long awaited Seven Lions EP has been released today via Skrillex‘s OWSLA imprint. The four track EP offers dubstep, progressive house, electro house, and even a little glitch hop, all ranging from 100 to 140 BPM. Jeff Montalvo (Seven Lions) is known for his ability to flawlessly infuse the wonderful sounds of trance with hard hitting dubstep in a progressive fashion. He does exactly that with his EP’s opening track titled ‘Days to Come’ featuring Fiora. The record begins with her beautiful vocals as the light kicks and heavenly percussion draw you in. Once the light melodic wobbles activate it’s simple game over, this has been the story with many of Montalvo’s productions.
‘Days to Come’ is followed by ‘The Truth’, this tune features a calm progressive opening but don’t be fooled. You’ll quickly hear some piercing wobbles over fast paced bass kicks. The small vocal samples throughout adds a nice touch and keeps the track sounding marvelous. Next up is ‘Fractals’ which in my eyes is an electro house masterpiece, the opening melody leads into dark electro stabs that somewhat remind me of a Wolfgang Gartner production. Last but not least there is ‘She Was’ featuring Birds of Paradise (free download below), the choppy glitch hop tune is a fantastic way to close out this stunning debut EP.
If you’ve been keeping up with my coverage of Sevens Lions as he continues to rise to the top, you’d know I’m a huge fan. I think highly of his sound and production skill, his ability to seamlessly dip into different genres and intertwine trance sounds with dubstep is completely mind-blowing. Make sure you catch him on the ‘OWSLA tour‘ (3 appearances), download his free mini mix, and purchase this amazing EP on Beatport.
