Insomniac Records have released their first ever free download compilation featuring the innovative house DJ, Sinden, and we couldn’t be more grateful. This playlist includes nine fresh tracks featuring a slew of artists that Sinden has collaborated with extensively in the past, so we already know it’s going to bring some heat. The cover is designed by Rick Klotz, a well known street wear designer, so of course you can snag an exclusive t-shirt at Insomniac’s online store. The image is a nostalgic salute to the old school rave scene and the flyer styles passed out for the next secret location.
For those who don’t know, the UK native Graeme Sinden has been blurring the lines between genres since his early teens. During those formative years, rap music is what really caught his attention with artists like Beastie Boys, NWA, 2 Live Crew, and Dr. Dre. He would haunt London’s record shops and during these visits he began his huge collection that would include a vast range of genres such as afrobeat, jungle, funk, house, and 2step garage, to list a few. Within this whirlwind of battling genres, Sinden played them off each other at house parties, and his DJ foundation was created. He had this to say about his vast array of options when mixing his sounds,
“I was inspired by Gilles Peterson’s ‘joining the dots’ attitude to DJing. Where you could move a dancefloor on your own terms, entertain and educate.”
Just this past year he released his first solo EP The Crystal Maze on AC Slater’s Night Bass Label. He released two EP’s for Australia’s Sweat It Out Label and is featured on Tchami’s Confessions imprint all while maintaining a producing career on his own label, Grizzly, since 2010. His bigger tracks like “Grit Mania” off of Petey Click’s My House EP and “Waterverb” from AC Slater’s Not No Love EP showcase his ever-growing sound. His most recent release is a two track EP Burners with LO’99, with “2NITE” and “WGWN” capturing his excellent mashup skills. Later this year he plans to release a joint EP with Petey Clicks and a remix from AC.
We’ll let you catch your breath on all of this. Graeme is practically unstoppable, always looking to explore and experiment with everyone that is down to play. He’s worked with a huge range of artists like Duke Dumont, Dillon Francis, Ookay, Tommy Trash, Taiki Nulight, and Destructo. This article will be miles long if we list everyone, but you get the idea. Graeme is unafraid to reach out and create something new. He is always looking to make a sound you can’t quite name and surprise his listeners with what he matches together.
Digging into this compilation, he features the likes of: Hervé, Astronomar, Hotfire, Marc Spence, Jaxx da Fishworks, R3LL, and LO’99. Each track focuses on reaching back into the basis of what the music behind all of those raves were about and then bridging that gap with what’s going on now in the scene. Tracks like “Tamborzuda” and “Follow Me” excellently showcase that classic, 90’s house vibe intertwined with modern sound effects and bass rhythms. This is just a taste of what this playlist has to offer and we suggest you get your hands on it as soon as possible.
