Marking his first single of the year, Dutch youngster STRX has just landed on Frequency Music with a track of massive proportions, teaming up with vocalist Ava Silver to unveil “Shadows.” Making up arguably his most personal release to date–as it allowed him to translate his feelings of hopelessness during quarantine–“Shadows” is emotional and hard-hitting, juxtaposing immersive atmospheres and pensive lyrics with a series of infectious trap and psy drops.
“In the midst of the pandemic, I found myself feeling hopeless and somewhat depressed sometimes. The negative voices in my head naturally transferred onto the music script, even though I was trying to make uplifting club music. As a result of this crossover between energy & vulnerability, ‘Shadows’ was born. Due to the extent to which this feeling was relatable to Ava Silver, we managed to make a vocal that perfectly connected. All in all, we created a piece with a message that I hope people can relate to and get empowered by,” says STRX.
Having taken the world by storm over the past couple of years with his consistent releases, STRX is slowly but surely cementing himself as a name to watch within dance music. Oftentimes blending multiple genres together–among them future bass, jungle and hybrid trap–he has used his decade-long experience in playing the drums as one of his sound-defining characteristics. Combining bass-heavy breaks, atmospheric sounds and ethnic instruments, STRX wants to make sure his productions are always unique, and we can’t wait to see where he takes things next.
