Life is not without it’s struggles, Tommy Trash and Kiesza have experienced their fair-share of tough moments as they have pursued a prosperous career in dance music. Their trials and tribulations led them here, in this moment, to create “Tectonic.”
Released on mau5trap – the famous deadmau5 label – the vibes the two have brought to life fits right in with the imprint via it’s techy nature and dark aesthetics. Countering this, there are plenty of features that make it stand out. A subtle bassline, dramatic piano, and curious layout of the synths give the foundation that Kiesza utilizes to the best of her abilities.
The vocals being a main part of the single, Kiesza completely lets loose with a passionate melody and in-depth story telling. The chorus peaks the catchiness that’s within on this one. The vocal being the light and the beat being the dark. Considering the juxtaposition, the sonic energy melds exquisitely together.
Tommy Trash’s career has some extremely momentous chapters in it to say the least. From 2011 to 2017, he was touring around the world and his brand rather inescapable. Hit songs, performances at some of the best festivals in the world, and collaborations with names like Sebastian Ingrosso scratches the surface of the journeys he’s been on. Yet in 2017, he took a moment to reflect on the 24/7 grind of the past busy years and noticed he wasn’t fulfilled. He dove into the world of ayahuasca, participating in ceremonies led by shamans in Costa Rica. A 3 year sabbatical began. In 2021, he’s rejuvenated, fulfilled, and found his purpose once again. “Tectonic,” is the beginning of a new chapter for Tommy Trash.
Kiesza tragically was involved in a life-changing car accident in 2017. The accident led to a brain injury preventing her to move or even sing/perform. An identity crisis ensued, but would not stop her. Remarkably, she collected herself and pressed on, now better than ever before.
“Tectonic,” is more than a track but a symbol of looking to the future, not giving up, and living your dreams the best way they can be lived.
