Torbjørn is kicking off 2025 by sending us straight into deep space with 7in_sciencefiction, a project that’s been symbolically beamed in from another galaxy down for bass heads to enjoy. Leading the charge is ‘sciencefiction_7inA,’ a track that sounds like an intercepted signal from a distant planet. It starts with these retro-futuristic synths that feel like the opening sequence of an old sci-fi movie, then drops hard into deep dubstep territory. High-pitched vocal chops swirl around, like alien voices trying to make contact, while the beat balances UK garage shuffle with the punchy weight of TR-808s. An all around great vibe that was in need of a sequal.
The EP’s artwork fits the mood perfectly—an astronaut floating alone in space, with planets glowing in the background and a solar flare creeping in. That same feeling of vastness shows up in the song’s closing moments, where a lone synth melody fades out, leaving you wondering what happens next.
The next chapter came on 2/7 with ‘foriegnsignal_7inB,’ the second piece of the puzzle.
First heard as an unreleased dubplate on Gunfingaz Thursday, this track already has deep dubstep heads like Substance and Wraz taking notice. If ‘sciencefiction_7inA’ feels like an invitation into the unknown, ‘foriegnsignal_7inB’ is the moment where things start getting eerie. Well-designed synth plucks echo like a radar pinging for life, dial-tone samples hint at lost transmissions, and when the drop lands, it’s all systems go—a galloping wobble bassline drives the track forward, laced with crisp hi-hats and a haunting synth line straight out of a thriller.
Torbjørn is no stranger to crafting tracks that feel like full-on experiences, and these songs are just another example of why he stands out. The narrative threads across both tracks pull you into a spacefaring journey that’s as much about atmosphere as it is about big bass energy.
