This week’s Unwind The Mind touched on more genres that I expected, which I love! Introverted house vibes, mash ups, poppy-house songs, and more all made their way into this week’s playlist. Life isn’t the same day in and day out, so why should the music be? 2017 has kicked off to be a good music year already, enjoy this week’s Unwind The Mind below.
Trademark – Last Night (Icona Pop X Louis The Child X Hibell)
2012, at the peak of the mash up movement, was where online electronic first grabbed me, so to say I have soft spot for the genre would be true. Trademark, hands down, slayed this mashup. The parts totally work together and are extremely clean sounding, what else could you ask for in the world of mashups? Keep the classics coming Trademark.
Two Friend – Overdose (CRWNS Remix)
CRWNS is routinely playing shows in New Orleans and has had a handful of hits last year. “Overdose (CRWNS Remix)” was the first one of 2017 and had a really cool feel to it. The four-chord focus and studdering future bass hits the spot and foreshadows more to come from this solo artist. More talent.
San Holo – Light (Loosid Remix)
“Light” is such a catchy song on it’s own, yet Loosid steps in with a forward thinking remix that you know will make heads turn. This release is gaining traction fast in the few days it has been out. Loosid has locked in Billboard premieres and HypeM #1’s, but this remix is my favorite from him in a long time. That drop tho! Had to go back and relisten 3 times to fully take in what I was hearing.
LissA – Don’t Look Back (LissA vs. MEMBA)
Singer LissA who has locked in millions of plays with a previous Ultra Records release, is now collaberating with multi-gere artist MEMBA for a feel-good single that fits both styles. “Don’t Look Back” is the perfect balance of pop and hot up-and-coming electronic sounds. This one just feels right. Earmilk call it “gritty and groovy” which perfectly sums up what is happening here.
Morgan Page & Steve James – Candles
Proximity boss Blake Coppleson just unleashed the label arm of YouTube’s top channel! To celebrate he’s released the first single off the label from Grammy-nominated artists Morgan Page and Steve James, “Candles.” Check out the electro-pop infused track below:
Secret Spade – In My Mind ft. Sarah Bird (Original)
Secret Spade and Sarah Bird’s original “In My Mind” is one of the most introverted release on this week’s list. My favorite part is the drop, which properly expands on the mystic theme of the overall experience. From the mastering to the sound design, “In My Mind” is a great song that folks from all walks of life would get.
STéLOUSE – Lovers BLYNE feat. Melisa Whiskey – Maybe Now
Stelouse, KRANE, and Whethan are some of my favs within future bass. They each have similar visions but are evolving in different directions in 2017. “Lovers” features tech house percussion and a deep house melody throughout, very different from Stelouse’s previous releases, but is fitting and still showcases bursts of future bass which was not only creative but, I felt, symbollicaly gives tribute to his core audience.
Eskei83, Drunken Masters & Gunjah – Rave
Eskei83, Drunken Masters and Gunjah have returned. Yup they teamed up for a blissful banger I can’t stop playing. Best believe I’m going to rinse this out when I spin next.
BLYNE feat. Melisa Whiskey – Maybe Now
With a blend of smooth vocals from the talented Whiskey and a mixture of soothing elements and melodies, “Maybe Now” will find itself on repeat all night. These silky, melodic trap drops will get their addicting vibes stuck in your head. Make sure to look out for more of BLYNE’s future releases!
