Since making a name for herself in 2010 with a release through Ultra Records and Richard Vission (“History”), Australian born vocalist Vasiliki Karagiorgos (AKA Vassy) has propelled as a rising star throughout the states and countries worldwide. Her past feats have included features on commercials with Target and Hilton Hotels to actual shows like Grey’s Anatomy.
Recently, Vassy released a single titled We Are Young along with remixes from some heavy hitters like Dave Aude, Sultan + Ned Shephard, Ivan Gomez and more which saw groundbreaking success both for her career and the pop/edm cross-pollinated community. Previously, she has worked with Afrojack and looks to continue pushing the envelope, pairing with producers to create music that will make people dance. WhiteRaverRafting had the pleasure to connect with Vassythis week and ask her a few questions regarding her vision and future in the scene:
Thanks for taking the time Vassy. Many of our fans may not be familiar with you or your sound at this point. Can you please start by telling us a little about yourself and your story?
I was born and raised in the tropics of Australia in a little town called Darwin. I was born into a loud Greek family! I grew up in a remote part of Australia, so it was hard to get access to anything. I was a little kid spending most of my time in the pool outdoors, listening to music 24/7.
I am known for my distinctive voice & quirky lyrics; it’s a unique sound that has in the past gotten me big rejections – for example getting kicked out of my own school choir and being told I could not sing!
I really like how free and open it is to be an artist and creative in electronic music. There aren’t as many boxes in this world and so I like it. It’s an amazing community, as I get to be more open with my ideas…
Is there an artist/producer in particular you would like to work with?
I worked with Afrojack before, but I would love to work with him once again on some new material. Sultan & Ned Shepard are guys I had always wanted to work with, and their remix of my single “We Are Young” was fantastic – next week I’ll be in the studio working on a new track with them! Calvin Harris is definitely someone I’d jump at the chance of working with – his stuff is so fresh and globally appealing!
Your track ‘Little things’ was on a recent Target commercial. Three words to describe your reaction when you hear yourself on TV:
HEY THATS ME?!! (Laughs)
What do you think of Diplo?
Well the kinda guy that requests a Malawi orphan and a gorilla on his rider has gotta be insanely creative! But he’s very successful right now, so good on him!
Ibiza or Miami?
Ibiza for sure – less VIP and more dancing!
you will love it
don’t regret it
