Through their connection at Interscope Records (Jimmy Iovine), Zedd got hooked up with Lady Gaga to help produce a number of tracks on her new album Artpop. While the event should lead to numerous opportunities for Zedd in the future, it didn’t come as easy as expected.
Gaga would interrupt the process saying, “I think we should change this and that,” an event that Zedd admitted doesn’t normally occur.
Here’s how he explained the experience:
“So it’s like a positive fight – you try to make the best for a song, and…you learn to compromise and find new ways, and I think that ultimately the songs get to a point that I would never be able to get to myself.”
I have a feeling that he’s being diplomatic with that statement. It wouldn’t be beneficial for him to badmouth a superstar like Lady Gaga, not to mention a fellow label mate.
However, Zedd wouldn’t come out and say that without reason.
In any event it’s almost completely opposite from the relationship shared between Lady Gaga and Madeon pictured below.
Lady Gaga gushed about Madeon to a French Radio station saying, “He is so amazing. He has such an understanding of music at such a young age. He reminds me of myself so much. He’s obsessed, so obsessed with music.”
“We worked on some amazing songs together,” she continued. “One song in particular I love so much. It’s called ‘Gypsy’, we wrote [the song] with RedOne.”
Madeon continued the love affair telling Digital Spy that,
“She’s great. She’s a really, really interesting and nice person. From a personal standpoint it’s been hugely admirational, to be like, ‘Wow – you’re at this level of super, ultimate fame – and there’s this aura of superstardom – and you’re still an engaging and nice person’. So that was really humbling.”
He continued, “Professionally, I think she’s amazing. She would come out of a show after singing live for three hours and giving it everything, but just go straight to the studio and record She would still give everything – even on the demo take! She’s really impressive.”
It’s interesting that both of them had such different experiences working with Lady Gaga.
ARTPOP is scheduled to be released November 11, 2013. The tracklist is expected to be shared September 27, 2013.
