Everywhere you look right now you seem to be running into a new “Best of 2014” list. Whether it’s the obligatory “Best Songs” of the year or “Fastest Risers” of the year, December is a month made for recapping what made waves in the music scene the previous 11 months. It’s fun to take a step back and rehash what played a role in the scene taking its current shape.
What we feel gets unjustly overlooked though is one of the very things that are supposed to catch your eye; album art. Entire teams are assembled to produce eye-catching imagery that’s not only interesting to look at, but also conveys the message for an album in one quick glance. It’s no easy task and it’s one that we feel many artists don’t give enough attention to. However, when done correctly, the result can be mind-blowing.
Here at WRR, we ran through a nearly comprehensive list of every album put out in 2014 and judged it not necessarily on content, but on the artistic quality of the cover. Nothing more, nothing less. Take a gander below at some of our absolute favorites from 2014.
