Everyone knows that the 90’s were the best decade in history. Economic prosperity was looking great, funky patterns were a thing, and computers hadn’t yet taken over our lives. So relive the good-ol-days and remember the times when mom was still cleaning your room and yelling for you to come inside.
For these ten remixes, we have perused into the depths of the internet, digging through millions of tracks to find the perfect blend of remixes that both turn back time AND bring a new wave of awesome to an old “classic”, (weird that that’s what makes a classic now right?) These 10 remixes will have you reminiscing to the days when people had house phones and before mp3s were even heard of.
1) TLC – Waterfalls (Bixel Boys Remix)
The Bixel Boys bring a sexy and smooth remix to TLC’s classic “Waterfalls”. Don’t worry, you can still sing your heart out to the epic vocals because The Bixel Boys have even kept the original verses, while adding some great soulful and funky flavor.
The Fugees – Ready Or Not (Whiiite Remix)
Whiite has trapped out this R&B classic with a bouncy twist for an end result that brings the best of both worlds. Whiiite was able to keep Lauryn Hill’s powerful lyrical verses, while transforming this track into a club-ready remix. He took two sounds that were very different from eachother, yet combines them in a way that is both interesting and smooth.
INOJ – Love You Down (eSenTRIK Remix)
One of my personal favorites from this list, this remix has been rockin’ my playlist for awhile. eSenTRIK brings the heat for this sexy remix with plenty of snares and kicks over the original melody for the perfect combination of bass & vocals.
Power Rangers Theme Song (SAYMYNAME’s Trap Remix)
You’re not a true 90’s kid if you didn’t love/idolize the Power Rangers. SAYMYNAME has brought some serious bass to the greatest kids show theme song ever, they even include some hilarious samples from the show. “Go Go Power Rangers!”
Bastille – Of the Night (Kove Remix)
Although this is a cover by Bastille of Corona’s 1993 track “Rhythm of the Night”, Kove brings a really incredible deep house funk to this remix. Paired perfectly with Bastille’s smooth vocals, the groovy bass and synths make this remix one of a kind.
Blackstreet – No Diggity (Bondax Edit)
“No Diggity” is probably one of the most remixed 90’s songs, however none quite capture the essence of the original like Bondax’s edit. Every element he contributes perfectly accenuates the beauty of the original while bringing up the energy of the track.
Oasis – Wonderwall (Figure Drumstep Edit)
Come on, you knew “Wonderwall” had to be on this list. Figure brings an acoustic-sounding drum and bass edit with an incredibly smooth dubstep drop. He leaves the best part of the vocals while splicing them up a bit to give it some new flair.
Smash Mouth – All Star (Kasum Remix)
Kasum takes a new approach with the “loser’s anthem”, and brings some empowerment to Smash Mouth’s “All Star”. Using melodic dubstep as the medium, this remix is truly a work of art.
Robyn – Show Me Love (DubRocca Remix)
Going deep with this remix, DubRocca brings some techy deep house with warped vocals for this remix. It’s definitely groovy, and the synths of the original melodies bring a strong disco vibe to it.
Neoteric & Wax Motif – Go Deep (Torro Torro Remix)
A high energy remix , and pretty much the raver’s anthem, this rendition of Janet Jackson’s “Go Deep” had to make this list. A perfect example of old and new coming together for a completely new sound, Torro Torro has revamped this track from head to toe. Since this is a remix of Neoteric & Wax Motif’s edit of the 97′ classic, we get to see the entire progression from then to now.
Mack Morrison – Return of the Mack (Viceroy’s “Jet Life” Remix)
A really incredible island remix of Mack Morrison’s “Return of the Mack”, everything about this track screams 90’s. Even the remix gives tribute to the best decade in history with it’s down-tempo groovy sounds and keyboard synths, and perfect for starting off festival season with a throwback.
