Going from relative unknown to famous producer seemingly overnight, Australian producer Flume continues to set the charts ablaze with his unique genre of music (can we go ahead and coin the genre “Harleystep”?). However, we did not know too much about the producer himself aside from information derived from interviews and artist bios…until today.
A user on reddit’s electronic music subreddit (r/electronicmusic) posted a link to Flume’s old reddit account back when the Aussie posted as user “humblebuzz.” His comment history puts us in a time machine and allows us to see what interested the producer before he struck gold with his Future Classic signing. Check out the # things we learned from Flume’s reddit account below:
1. He first posted four years ago to announce the beginning off his “Flume” alias
Back when Myspace was still relevant!
2. He wanted to be this man:
Completely understandable.
3. He gave advice to other producers on the “WeAreTheMusicMakers” subreddit
An OG at making build-ups since 2010.
4. His main alias before Flume was HEDS, a project where he produced glitchy tunes
5. He can play the saxophone
6. He has an interesting sense of humor
Uh-huh…
7. He used Ableton Live to produce and got feedback from other users on “WeAreTheMusicMakers”
Wonder if this user knows they gave Flume advice on how to improve the track?
8. He worked as a cashier and devised devilish ways to get back at rude customers
Genius.
9. He posted to the “futurebeats” subreddit to express his appreciation for giving him inspiration
Does that subreddit know they helped shape Flume?
10. He produced a moombahton track with Emoh Instead under their “What So Not” alias three years ago
This explains his friendship with Dillon Francis.
11. He got into serious trouble
This one is self-explanatory.
12. He produced in his bedroom even after getting signed by Future Classic
Nice humble brag, Humblebuzz.
13. He was ecstatic when Ripcurl used his song “Sleepless” for an ad
More humble brags, but well deserved.
