Obvious – Clear cut nominees for this year were Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, and Kaskade due to their massive marketing and high exposure.
Pleasantly Surprised – Very nice to see Pretty Lights gain the well-deserved recognition for A Color Map Of The Sun. It’s also cool to see Duke Dumont get nominated for Need U (100%) since it more resembles a 1990’s Salt-N-Pepa song rather than a modern house tune.
Heavy Favorites – Grammy voters definitely consider popularity, radio play, and album/single sales. Therefore, the front runners for Best Dance Album are Daft Punk and Calvin Harris, while the two horse race for Best Dance Recording is between “Sweet Nothing” and “Clarity”. Best of luck to everyone else, they’ll need it.
Overall – We’ve got to give credit to the Grammy panelists, it looks like they’ve actually done their homework this year when it comes to choosing these dance music nominees. This is a huge improvement over last year’s snafu when unknown artist Al Walser was nominated for his song “I Can’t Live Without You”.
