ICYMI: 2015 is almost over. And what a year it’s been! With no shortage of ‘Best Artists/Singles/Albums of 2015’ lists circulating the blogosphere, we’ve decided to team up with Point Blank Music School to put together some producer-friendly year-end lists.
First up, we’ve chosen three of our favorite Ableton tutorials of the year. Brush up on your production skills with the videos below, and stay tuned to catch our top three Logic tutorials later this week!
Stardust – ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ (Ableton Push 2 Deconstruction) Push 2 arrived in November, and to celebrate its sampling features Point Blank hosted a classic French house deconstruction. Instructor Ski Oakenfull broke down the Thomas Bangalter, Alan Braxe and Benjamin Diamond track ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ using the new features of Ableton Push 2 and version 9.5 of the software.
Matthew Dear – CNTRL U.S. Masterclass The first stop on Point Blank’s CNTRL U.S. tour with Richie Hawtin was at Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, they linked up with Ghostly International’s Matthew Dear for a fascinating Ableton Live tutorial. In the video above, Matthew explains everything from his sound design approach to how he arranges his tracks, why stripping back your studio can work wonders and how his classic ‘Mouth to Mouth’ was made.
Ben Pearce – ‘What I Might Do’ Track MasterclassAfter UK producer Ben Pearce delivered a superb masterclass earlier this year at LEAF, Point Blank decided to invite the producer to their London campus to discuss how he made ‘What I Might Do’, his creative approach and how he’s developed as an artist. During the tutorial, he shows us how he made the tune completely in Ableton Live right from his bedroom!
