Notorious bass bringer 5 & A Dime started producing music in 2011 via mashups that took off the second they were released. However, he’s released countless remixes and several originals since his early mashup days. Although he is now producing his own bangers, that hasn’t stopped him from sticking to his roots and still releases mashups every so often. This Philadelphia born producer has been tearing the scene up in 2016 with his bass heavy tracks that leave fans blown away. Only yesterday his third official single of this year was released for free download.
“Siren” is a bass heavy track that will cater to your inner demon the moment it comes on. The track is packed full with hard hitting percussions and synths that are fused together with the notorious Bassmob producer’s signature sound. Be sure to check your speakers before pressing play to ensure you don’t have a blow out. RaverRafting had the opportunity to talk with 5 & A Dime about his latest release, city of operation, and his future plans for music. Check out our exclusive interview below!
Your newest track, “Siren”, is quite the head banger, can you tell me what went into producing it?
5 & A Dime: It started out as a track from August 2015 and I recreated it to become what is “Siren”.
What was your favorite part about producing “Siren”?
5 & A Dime: My favorite part about producing this track was that it was unconventional. It is unlike anything I’ve ever created because it flows in a way that that is hard to explain. It sounds like a bunch of different sounds even though it’s the same sound being resampled in different ways.
How do you compare the dance music scene in Philadelphia to other parts of the country?
5 & A Dime: I think the dance music scene in Philadelphia is interesting. It’s unique in the sense that there are certain “cliques” here in Philly and unlike LA or NYC, it is more underground. I don’t believe if I was in any other city it would be a different experience for me, as this industry seems to have no boundaries in respect to where you live
Obviously you bring the bass in your tracks, would you define your current sound as strictly bass oriented? Do you have a preference on sticking to one specific genre of music?
5 & A Dime: In regards to my sound, I would not say it is strictly bass oriented. I have a few collaborations that are very melodic for most of the song, but then of course have a dirty drop. I would say that my own sound is metallic in the sense of the lead sounds and bass sounds. I think any strong song out right now is bass oriented though if you think about it. I do not have a preference in regards to my “genre” of music. I am dabbling in all forms of BPMs and grooves, so as long as it sounds good to me then I’ll release it.
Can we expect an EP or an album sometime in the future?
5 & A Dime: In regards to an EP or album, I’ve been thinking about it, but for the near future I will be doing singles. Who knows, maybe something will come up ;).
Who are your favorite electronic acts at the moment?
5 & A Dime: Right now my favorite acts are Awoltalk, Topi, and Havok Roth, they are really bringing a lot to the bass scene.
Anything you want to say to your fans?
5 & A Dime: I would like to say thank you to every single one of them. If it was not for them consistently pushing my music and believing in this music I would not be heard by so many more wonderful listeners.
