A couple months ago, Goldenvoice announced a brand new music festival that will be taking place in just 2 months in San Francisco, CA. With the announcement came an insanely stacked lineup that we’re all excited for. With headliners Flume and The Chemical Brothers, and other huge names like Kaytranada, Jungle, Charlie XCS, Fatboy Slim, James Blake, M.I.A., Lane 8, Duke Dumont, Slow Thai, and so much more, this is arguably the best electronic lineup we’ve seen this year! To narrow it down, we wanted to share with you the 5 acts that we’re most excited to see at Portola. You definitely won’t want to miss these artists at the inaugural Portola Music Festival:
British singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and remixer, Fred Again.. has been growing traction over the past couple of years. As a producer and songwriter, Fred has been known to work with a wide range of artists including Swedish House Mafia, Halsey, Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Eminem, The XX, Brian Eno, and BTS. As a singer and self-producer, the London-based artist mixes house/electronica with samples and recorded conversations collected both from his life and social media. At the height of the pandemic, he released his first two full-length albums, Actual Life (April 14 – December 17 2020) and Actual Life 2 (February 2 – October 15, 2021), which featured hit singles like “Kyle (I Found You)” and “Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing)”. His live shows are filled with love, energy, and beautiful vibes. He’s currently working on Actual Life 3 and we’re almost certain that he’ll premiere a couple new tracks at Portola.
English electronic music duo and pioneers, The Chemical Brothers are known for bringing the electronic big beat genre to the masses. With 9 studio albums, the duo has won 6 Grammy Awards including Best Dance Recording, Best Dance/Electronic Album, and many more. The duo is known for their hit singles, “Hey Boy Hey Girl”, “Galvanize”, “The Salmon Dance”, and so much more. This is a set you definitely won’t want to miss because Portola is the only announced North American date they have scheduled for the rest of 2022. The last time they played in America was in 2019. Seriously, do not miss The Chemical Brothers.
South Korean DJ, record producer, and model Peggy Gou is a Berlin based artist who first came into the scene turning heads in the underground world in London and Berlin. More recently, she’s become more popular in the masses with her highly unique sound, which is a beautiful blend of dark house, techno, break beats, and pulsing abstract compositions. With hit singles like “Starry Night”, “It Makes You Forget”, and “I Go”, the self-taught DJ and producer is always sure to deliver a fun DJ set. Peggy always has mad love for her fans and we’re anticipating her set to be the most interactive.
English musician, DJ, and record producer, Jamie XX is most notably known for being the “driving force” behind the famous band, The XX. He is also known for his solo DJ work as he always throws the best parties packed with remixes and disco balls. After a 5 year hiatus, he released his first single, “Idontknow” which received many positive reviews from critics. Similar to The Chemical Brothers, Jamie XX also hasn’t played in America in a long time. But most recently, he performed an amazing set at Coachella back in April. We know that he’ll bring the same love and energy to Portola!
Compton born rapper, singer, and record producer, Channel Tres has been making huge waves in the electronic scene these past couple of years. With his hit single, “Controller”, Channel rose to international fame and continues to rise with massive collaborations with big named artists like Polo and Pan, Tokimonsta, and Tyler The Creator. We recently caught his set at Governors Balls which was insanely fun. He sang live and performed with backup dancers. The crowd was going nuts, which we’re expecting to see similar vibes at Portola.
