The iconic nightclub was the place to be in New York City for dance music fans in the 80s, and many present-day artists point to Paradise Garage as a major influence in their lives. Now, “A Night At Paradise Garage” is giving an entire generation of younger dance music fans the extraordinary opportunity to get a glimpse at the legendary nightclub that changed dance music forever.
If you’re still not convinced as to why you should attend “A Night At Paradise Garage,” we’ve put together a list of 5 reasons this is our must-attend event of the holidays. You can get limited tickets to the event here.
1. It’s a piece of dance music history
Though Paradise Garage shut its doors in 1987, the iconic nightclub played a major role in dance music’s history in New York City during its ten-year run. Most importantly, Paradise Garage is credited for the foundation of today’s modern club scene, as the nightclub placed an added emphasis on dancing, and was the first nightclub to consider the DJ the centerpiece. These two aspects have continued on long after Paradise Garage closed its doors, but it’s important to remember dance music’s rich history. In November, Billboard even named Paradise Garage as its best dance club of all time.
2. Joey Llanos and David DePine are slated to play
Joey Llanos and David DePine were employees of Paradise Garage in the 80s, which means they learned from one of the very best DJs there ever was in Larry Levan. The Paradise Garage resident was known for his impeccable DJing ability, as he was able and willing to play any track that was danceable to – including The Clash and The Police mixed in amongst the NYC house classics.

3. Frankie Knuckles, Louie Vega, and even a young Madonna were influenced by the club:
People often say that talent attracts talent, and that definitely holds true for Paradise Garage. Though it’s run in New York City was only spanned ten years, many modern-day and old-school artists credit the nightclub as a major influence on their music, including the legendary Frankie Knuckles, who was a contemporary of the nightclub, and even a young Madonna.
4.It’s considered the birthplace of Garage
The genre, “garage,” was used to describe the style of disco and house music that was played at Paradise Garage, which included New York house, Detroit techno, Chicago house, and everything in between. The term does not exclusive mean house music, rather, the entire genre is based around the sounds that came through Paradise Garage’s speakers in the 80s.
5. The event is a fundraiser for the GMHC
In addition to the plenty of historical reasons to attend “A Night At Paradise Garage,” the event is a fundraiser for the GMHC and ALPA, an organization that fights to end the AIDS epidemic and help those that have suffered from AIDS. Since the doors of the club have closed, Paradise Garage has been credited for having a major influence on LGBT culture, and it is continuing its fight as the brand travels around the world.
