New year, new Spring Awakening. Today. Spring Awakening Music Festival (SAMF) announced its 5th annual festival for 2016 to be on June 10-12th along with a new location at Jackson Park, which is the historical location for the city’s World Fair in 1893. Jeff Callahan, founder of SAMF went on to say about the move:
Over the past year we’ve explored potential venues that have bigger footprints, and with 500+ acres of lakefront greenery, Jackson Park turned out to be a prime location. Jackson Park allows SAMF to continue to grow as the largest dance music festival in the Midwest, with enough space to accommodate our growing number of fans, and will also allow for more stages and bigger production than ever before.
And growing it is. This year will have two main stages included in the six total stages, along with various art installations, carnival rides which specifically will include a ferris wheel in honor of the world’s first ferris wheel that was built on these same grounds for the monumental World’s Fair in 1893. Now that’s pretty freaking cool.
