If you have at any point casually surfed the net, you’ve probably browsed a few Kickstarters. What is Kickstarter? It’s a website where aspiring inventors, artists and even the average Joe can find public funding for their brilliant ideas. There are different levels of sponsorship, and “backers” can receive cool thank you incentives, often being the invention itself. Upon the existence of such a platform, not every idea is a good idea. Sit back, relax, and enjoy these 6 entertaining EDM related Kickstarter videos.
1. Drum Pants
You read that correctly. Now that kid that sits in the corner of your Psych class can turn their boring old pants into lively magical music trousers! Drum Pants is a smart sensor kit that can attach to any type of clothing. Each sensor is programmable to play hundreds of different sounds and drum kit elements like hi-hats, snares, cymbals, kick drums, loop pedals and more. It connects to headphones, or God forbid, external speakers. The genius idea came to co-founder Tyler Freeman when he noticed a bunch of people drumming on their pants.
2. QuNeo 3-D Multi-touch Open Source MIDI & USB Pad Controller
This next Kickstarter allows DJs and producers to have LED feedback for their every action. QuNeo is a multi-touch controller roughly the size of an iPad 2 that was created by Keith McMillen. With a unique form of touch recognition technology, each of the 27 pads, sliders and rotary sensors can be pressure, velocity and location sensitive. Or in layman’s terms, every unit on the controller responds to how hard you press, where you press, and the number of fingers you use. That is pretty awesome.
3. Trifucta Party Playground
Apparently, you can also fund parties and party-inspired creations on Kickstarter. The Trifucta Party Playground is an art car for Burning Man, and that should pretty much sum it up. For those who still don’t get it, it’s basically a huge party playground for adults. There’s a “reality consultant” on the team, which wields a great sigh of relief from potential investors, and the structural beast does its job in looking intriguing. We’ll just say this ain’t yo grandma’s party playground.
4. Ravee Apparel Versatile Sweatproof Tank & Crop Tops w/ Hidden Pockets
The concept is pretty simple: Bros don’t want their stuff to get wet at raves. Ravee tanks and shirts are made from high quality water-proof Lyrca, lined with secret compartments to conceal your secrets. Festival goers no longer have to struggle with the burden of carrying small possessions at a time when their hands should probably be in the air. 5. SpinFX: Persistence of Vision Poi & Phoenix LED Hoop
If you attend festivals, you’ve probably encountered hoopers or someone who practices the art form of poi. While rave toys are a dime a dozen, SpinFX modernizes industry standards by letting users completely customize and program their devices. It runs with an IR remote control, USB interface, and Android wireless control. You can literally program the device to display anything, making it possible for 8-bit portraits of Nicolas Cage to see the light of day.
6. blink(1) USB RGB LED
This last one is actually pretty useful. Developed by THING M, an LED collective responsible for products presented at Burning Man, the blink(1) is a tiny, open source, fully-programmable RGB USB LED light that visually announces computer notifications. These notifications include Twitter updates, downloads finishing, alarms, overheating warnings, and can even be timed to the beat of your music.
