Back before we knew him as GRiZ, Grant Kwiecinski played under the moniker “GK”. To no surprise, he produced and released some amazing future funk. ‘Little Learners EP’ is a representation of how forward his vision is and can be. Don’t get me wrong, “Mad Liberation” was one of my top 5 albums of 2012 but, his circa 2010 work seems to be much more experimental in nature. Less is more and it’s a thing of beauty. My good friend Brian (who introduced this today) said it best:
“Remove the pressures of pleasing hyper bass-conscious EDM consumers today and you are rewarded with the future funk swerve machine that was GK circa 2010. put down your raised arms and move your feet and hips to an unparalleled audio groove because the kid from Detroit didn’t fiend for your womp approval.”
Opinions aside, GRiZ is still one of the most talented individuals our scene has to offer. Whether he sticks to the contemporary bass or reconvenes with the future funk roots of his past, we will all undoubtedly appreciate the meticulous effort and detail that goes into every one of his productions.
