Can you feel it too? That warm, bubbly sensation in your head and stomach that can only mean one thing, Electric Forest is only a week away. By now you’ve got your Packing Essentials laid out in the garage, you’re getting hyped over the World Record Attempted Group Hug and Lowtemp Stage, and of course Nectar’s set Saturday night.
Last year we saw some griping about the lineup lacking huge names, or not appealing to certain people’s tastes completely enough. This year has been the complete opposite, with a massive lineup featuring huge names from top to bottom. The crew at Madison House, headed by Alicia Karlin, has gone above the call to bring us one of the best lineups of the festival season 2015.
With such a massive and talented lineup, we thought it’d be helpful to bring some attention to some non-headliners who are going to kill it at Forest. So pack it up, pack it in, let us begin.
9. Lido
Lido is a 23 year old Norwegian making the trip to Rothbury to please us with his sexy beats and remixes. We’ve had our eyes on Lido for a minute yet rarely do we see his name popping up in the U.S. With crisp percussion and smooth melodies, we’re anticipating a set that ebbs and flows perfectly with the Forest vibes.
Set time: June 25th. 8:45-9:45 Sherwood Court
8. Mt. Eden
More international talent making an appearance in the Forest, Mt Eden are a pair of bass producers from New Zealand. Although they’ve ditched the “dubstep” from their name, their music still has all the elements that dub fans love. Bangin drums and grimy leads accompany subtle features in their sound that craft a pleasant, yet still intense feeling to their tunes.
Set time: June 26th. 5:30-6:30 Tripolee
7. Phutureprimitive
Comin out of Bay Area with a sound reminiscent of a lush West Coast Forest, is Phutureprimitive. He contrasts the heavy and the beautiful with a unique and delicate touch to his remixes and original productions. The result is a sound that is all his own and we believe makes him a can’t miss.
Set time: June 25th 10:30-12:00 Jubilee
6. Freddy Todd
After seeing him throw down at Infrasound a couple weeks ago, Freddy Todd became a no-brainer for this list. Glitch-hop junkies and Foresters alike are going to be infected by his quick cutting and blending style of music. We hope you have your cardio up because Freddy is going to make you move, a lot. (keep your fingers crossed for a Russ Liquid appearance)
Set time: June 27th 10:00-11:30 Forest Stage
5. Phantogram
Of all the amazing artists with incredible talent, we were most pleased to see Phantogram on the lineup. Sara’s elegant and haunting voice will grace the Sherwood Court while Joshua’s powerful beats and rhythms will have everyone moving. It’s going to be an enjoyable and emotional experience, and aren’t those always the best? Check out an example of their live show here.
Set Time: July 27th 9:30-10:30 Sherwood Court
4. Mr. Carmack
Fulfilling more of the Bassrush theme is one of the best artists making trap, Mr Carmack. He brings a diversity to the sound that can’t be said for a lot of other and his live sets are uptempo and a blast to get down to. We’re glad he’s at Sherwood Court so there’s a lot of room in the back to really get down. Everyone knows you need your space when there’s nasty beats on, ask anyone.
Set Times: July 27th 6:30-7:30
3. KOAN Sound
It’s 6:45 on Friday and you’re chilling in your hammock when all of a sudden it hits you, “I’m 15 minutes late for Koan Sound.” Which is too bad because the boys from Bristol, UK are absolutely throwing down at Tripolee. Of all the bass sounds in electronic muisc, KOAN Sound has some of our favorites. Seemingly relentless percussion will mesmerize you while the occasional break feels like a lifetime without sound. Get your dancing shoes on and be sure to stretch it out, as KOAN Sound is gonna make you move.
Set time: July 25th 6:30-7:30 Tripolee
2. Shpongle
To polish off our list are two artists playing back to back at the Ranch on the first day. Shpongle is going to put our brains in a fishbowl with his very unique and creative tunes. Shpongletron or not, there is still plenty of weird to spare in a Simon Posford DJ Set and he’s going to blast the Ranch into outer space and time. There’s a pretty rough overlap with Lido, but if you’re willing to make the walk those two sets flow with each other really well. Day One is stacked.
Set time: July 25th 8:30-9:45
1. ODESZA
Since the first time I saw ODESZA all I’ve wanted was to see them in the Forest. Their music is that ‘put you in a good mood’ anytime and the amount of days their music has gotten me through is immeasurable. The feeling of day one and finally being at Forest and ODESZA’s music is going to be unbelievably awesome. It’s in contention for happiest set of the weekend and could pull the upset over Nectar. Tears will be shed and rugs will be cut, the mark of an amazing and powerful set.
Set time: July 25th 10:15-11:30 Ranch Arena
We put together some of this group’s biggest and best tunes into SoundCloud playlist below. We hope to see you out there!
