Ableton’s Push instrument made a huge splash when it launched in early 2013. Developed with Akai, Push was created to give users a hands-on creative experience with their flagship software, offering 64 LED pads, nine knobs, screen and a selection of Ableton-specific controls, Push was a huge success, popping up in the studios and on the stages of some of the biggest artists in electronic music. Now, it’s been re-considered and re-designed, this time by Ableton themselves. Push 2 is here and the acclaimed Point Blank Music School gives us a first-hand look at the brand new technology.
The biggest and most obvious change is the screen. In place of the old, orange display is a full-color, large OLED screen, pulling through parameter and waveform information from the new Live version 9.5. A new row of buttons above the screen corresponds to what’s displayed, making the interface much more immediate. Find out what’s new in the video above!
