Above & Beyond has spent the last couple of months embarking on a grand North American tour in support of their new highly-acclaimed album, Common Ground. After kicking off the tour at the Los Angeles Convention Center and more recently dazzling New Yorkers at Barclays Center, the trio brought their Common Ground show to Rawhide Event Center in Chandler, Arizona with supporting acts Spencer Brown and Gabriel & Dresden.
The night began with Anjunabeats rising star Spencer Brown, as he welcomed fans with his fine blend of trance and progressive house beats. After warming up the dance floor, trance legends Gabriel & Dresden took the stage to deliver a phenomenal performance. They quickly enraptured the crowd with Pryda’s thrilling original, “The Truth.” The duo followed with releases from their highly-anticipated (first album in 11 years), The Only Road, including “White Walls,” “This Love Kills Me,” and “Only Road (Cosmic Gate Remix)”.
When the clock struck 10 PM, Jono and Paavo took the decks and jumped right into originals from their new album. The glorious two hour set began with Richard Bedford’s harmonious vocals as “Bittersweet & Blue” filled the room. From there on out, it was quite the emotional ride. They continued with Common Ground singles, “Tightrope,” “My Own Hymn,” “Is It Love,” “Northern Soul,” and one of our favorites, “Happiness Amplified”. Their beautiful compositions were paired with positive affirmations that painted the screen, making for a Group Therapy session.
As the set progressed, there was a slight shift as Above & Beyond incorporated a mixture of new and old pieces. They took us through a journey of the past, playing their beloved tracks from We Are All We Need, “Alone Tonight,” and even took it back one step further with OceanLab’s “On A Good Day.”
We met on common ground, we smiled, we laughed, we cried in unison, it was undoubtedly a magical experience for the Anjuna family.
If you have the opportunity to catch Above & Beyond’s Common Ground tour, do not miss it! The tour continues into late May with a final performance in London. Tickets for the upcoming shows are available here. See you all on Common Ground!
