Abraxis is the brain child of Jeff Montalvo of Seven Lions and Fil Pankovcin and Loch Stimpson from Dimibo. Together, they have quickly grown the Abraxis Institute into one of the most popular schools known in the EDM world. If you want to take the test to see if you can gain entry, you can do so here. Students have been excited for the next lecture, after the first two releases, “Old Gods”, and collab track with Crystal Skies, “Night Rider”, just touching the surface of what Abraxis can deliver. Some students have been lucky to attend live lectures at Ophelia showcases at Electric Zoo, Echostage, Mission, and Avant Gardner before their unforgettable packed out closer at Dreamstate SoCal.
The Ophelia Records label head has had incredible success within the past few months alone. After a year and a half, Montalvo released his very successful EP, Find Another Way, that reminded us how much depth and passion he is able to project through his music. He premiered the new Advent series, with Volume I featuring new producers that have been welcomed to the label. Just recently he dropped his latest fire remix of 3lau’s, “Tokyo”, that fans have also been begging for since he started streaming. The thirst has been unreal.
Their third release, “Half of It”, has seen immense success from hearing it live from both Seven Lions and Dimibo featuring it in their live-streams on the Twitch platform. Comments flooded the chat room with the dire need to have this released. We don’t think anyone has ever been this excited to get their next assignment. Just last night, Abraxis closed out the second Visions stream, a bi-weekly event that is like a mini festival. Featuring artists from the Ophelia label such as Gem & Tauri, Jason Ross, and Kill the Noise, we got to transport ourselves for the night and be enveloped in the experience.
The track that has been getting all the hype is “Half of It”, a beautifully constructed track with heartfelt vocals that keep the lyrics swirling in our memories. The bittersweet melody is matched with snapping synth work that sticks through your heart. Top it off with a driving rhythm that gets your feet immediately on the floor, this new wave of psytrance is both refreshing and exhilarating. The second half they kick it up a gear and really push us into the intense psy beat that we all know and love.
We are beyond happy to have this track be on repeat for the entirety of the weekend. Abraxis can only go up from here and we cannot wait to see what they concoct for us next. Those apart of the institute and beyond can now stream Abraxis’ “Half of It” on Spotify and Apple Music. It is also available for purchase on the Ophelia website. Happy Psyday everybody!
