Adapted Records has made a huge mark on my musical life as of lately. The relationship started out minimal and not something in the focus; checking out a tune here and there, but never associating it within a mental priority list of highly pleasing music. That all changed when I heard one artist.
Thomas Vent
Thomas Vent is easily one of the baddest new bass artist I’ve seen step up in 2015. His style is well-diverse, but always tough to some extent. He’s captured my mind previously with a southern-rock-meets-dubstep single “Tramp,” but more recently shared a funky, glitchy, and melodic original “Squealing Funk,” listen above.
After Thomas Vent, I was hooked and the journey into the world of Adapted Records was full on. From there, a extensive list of artist caught my eye as extraordinary, a handful of which I can’t help but share.
Beat Fatigue
Beat Fatigue delivers an intelligent twist on a glitch-hop core sound – always handling new funk sounds no matter how complicated the chord progression or melodies may be. “Funk Tube” showcases music theory skills that are impressive while delivering a quality of soul that’s even more so.
Orphic
There’s a single term that I think describes Orphic best, “Motown Glitch.” Orphic is able to capture friendly, adventurous musical moments through an ear for extreme detail and great gut instinct. Orphic’s tracks typically leave you feeling good but you can’t always put a finger on why; “Wiggle Bit” is another thriving example of this.
Father Funk
The name gives it away. If you’re a huge fan of electronic or funk, there’s one producer you can call daddy. With vibrating keyboard and throbbing basslines, Father Funk’s blend of traditional instruments and rough electronic is outstanding, “Chocolate Milk” milk being one of his most retro and funkiest yet.
SpekFreks
SpekFreks made an huge mark on me. The sound tends to be more intense, quick, and detailed than most of Adapted Records’ bunch. The extra pep packed into his tunes really takes the mind to a new place when deep in glitch-funk mixa and state of mind. “Juke Joint” is a great example of the type of heaviness I’ve come to love from SpekFreks.
Adapted Records many more artist to discover and new music to be explored in their Glitch & Funk Vol. 1 compilation. Keep an eye on the fast rising bass label, you new favorite tracks could be waiting there, mine were.
