Renowned for creating very radio-friendly, commercial dance hits, Afrojack has surprised us all with this three-minute preview of “Musician”. Although still catered to a more mainstream audience, this track is very different from the majority of his songs, and takes on a very dark, and even ominous tone. Surprisingly there are no lyrics present in the track apart from a one-word vocal sample before a Dutch-house style drop. With hard-hitting keys, a loud kick drum, and a some sinister-sounding synths voicing a catchy melody, “Musician” will definitely add some diversity to his upcoming album, as it greatly contrasts very pop-oriented tracks such as “The Spark”, and lyrical tunes such as his remix of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball”.
This was a very interesting, and unexpected way for a producer like Afrojack to start off the year, as many were expecting another lyrical dance floor banger, and although there is no release date yet, we will likely get to hear the full version (as well as some more album news!) in the near future.
