WRR: When you first got into edm did you take an immediate liking to dubstep?
A: When i first got into bass music, dubstep was the first genre I started taking a liking to for sure. All the old Caspa and Rusko tunes including their Fabric Live 37 mix is what got me into the whole sound.
A: I’ve only been producing/DJing for about three years now. I initially started DJing some small venues in Baltimore with some friends, and I would usually play deeper stuff. When I learned more about production I wanted to make the kind of stuff I got into when I was first exposed to dubstep. I love all kinds of sounds in the dubstep scene. I feel like there is a time and place for everything and certain styles fit different crowds and different clubs. The deep and dark stuff is just what I enjoy producing the most.
A: In the beginning, a lot of the UK guys are what I had on heavy rotation in my music library. The Dub Police crew, some Tempa stuff, and some early Hench. Most of the artists I first started getting into after Caspa and Rusko were Skream, Benga, Chasing Shadows, Distance, Tunnidge, The Others, l Wiz, list goes on. As time progressed I started taking a liking to the heavier sound as well. I love the energy in some of the heavier dubstep sounds. Guys like Funtcase, Datsik, etc. The deep stuff is always what I’ve been more passionate about.
Some dope up and coming people I really am feeling in the deeper side of things are Nixsin, AxH, who just got signed onto Tempa, all the Uprise Audio guys, and a lot of the local DJs in the Baltimore scene kill it as well.
A: Well, the whole explosion of electronic music has just drawn in a shit ton of more people to the scene. All the new kids are just catching onto the more mainstream side of things, and I feel like the people who’ve been in it for years are coming back to the underground side of things, like dubstep, for instance. I feel like a lot of the dubstep fans who just rode the bandwagon went onto the next thing that’s hot, and we’re left with the people who genuinely love the sound. Dubstep is better than ever in my opinion and so many amazing producers are making ground breaking music.
A: It’s always cool playing those shows. The Steez Promo crew have helped me out a lot in the past few years. Putting me on shows with big guys like that got me more of a following for sure. And its great being able to play the sound you love to big crowds.
A: I just came across that acapella online that she put up for a free download. I wanted to do something on the deeper side with it and I’m happy with the outcome. Sometimes just stripping things back to the basics creates a easy listening vibe, and that’s what I was going for in that tune.
A:The Drider EP consists of two tracks: the title track “The Drider” and the b side “Disturbia.” “The Drider” is a bit of a heavier tune and “Disturbia” is more of a deep roller with percussion elements. Both tunes I’m happy with and I hope everyone receives them well!
I wanted to thank everyone over at Steez Promo, PeopleSources Promo, Biosphere Recordings, Badass Raves, Deep Sessions DC, Bass Nation, all of my fellow producer/DJ friends, my girlfriend and family for being so supportive of me, everyone supporting the dubstep sound, and WRR for the interview! Big up everyone!
