Putting together a full length album has become a popular move by many electronic producers today as way to show that as an artist, they can make diverse tracks and do more than simply make dance floor anthems. But for some producers, their albums are just a way to stay in the spotlight because it’s the “cool” thing to do. So has Swedish phenomenon Alesso jumped on the bandwagon, or has he made an album that will go down in history?
Since 2011 Alesso has been pumping out hit after hit and it was only a matter of time until he would put out an album, and Forever is exactly what you would expect from the Swede. The album is full of potential hits but doesn’t alter the Alesso’s signature sound. Let’s dive into a few tracks.
Without a doubt this album has many potential anthems and radio friendly tracks that will surely become popular over the rest of the year. We have all heard “Heroes” and “Cool” which have been making waves, but one track that is surely to be the next single is “Sweet Escape.” With vocals from Swedish singer/songwriter Sirena comes the ultimate feel good track. With the catchy hook of “Nothing Can Hold Us Down,” it’s sure to be the track that people will be singing and tweeting the lyrics to when they are having a good time with their significant other.
The album also features tracks that we have been hearing Alesso play in his sets for over a year. Tracks like “If I lose Myself” and “Under Control” have already made their waves and help the overall presence of the album. But Alesso has included a few songs to really show his musical ability as a producer.
Alesso gives us “Destinations” which is a masterly-crafted track that has beautiful melodies accompanied by compelling chords. The track doesn’t have any kick drums and serves as an emotional offering to change the tone of the album. The final track of the album “Immortale” follows suit and closes the album on a high note. Each of these are tracks you would more likely hear in a movie score than on a dance floor.
One final song on the album that truly stands out is “In My Blood” which is immediately recognizable to any Alesso fan. The track has been played for a few years as in instrumental by Alesso and has been known online as “Collioure ID.” Alesso called on the help of EDM vocal sensation John Martin to add some beautiful vocals to the already powerful track.
Overall, Alesso has created a successful debut album with songs that we will be playing for years to come. It will be interesting to see where the Swede will go from here with such a variety of tracks and styles he has created on this album.
