If you cannot find a song that you like on Alexander Shofler & The Supertraxxe’s new self-entitled EP, then something’s not right with you. The new EP, which dropped today, features elements from commercial pop to poetic rap and everything in between. I originally discovered Alexander Shofler & The Supertraxxe with the premiere of electro-pop single “Only A Feeling,” but was taken-back when I heard how completely different the entire EP is.
“Elevator Love” can generally be described as a Pharrel Williams style, chill-commercial-pop track. The energy level stays within a gentle range, leaving the focus on the ultra-catchy drum-vocal-synth combination. “Elevator Love” sets the “non-banger” tone that encompasses the EP journey.
“Automatic” takes the chill vibes to even deeper levels. The slow motion track makes every word of Alexander Shofler absorbable and impactful. Being the second track on the EP “Automatic” marks a realization point of how unique this EP is already turning out to be.
“Only a Feeling” is promptly placed in the middle of the EP, serving as the peak of their The Supertraxxe’s ultra-colorful, hyper-eclectic style. The bridge of “Only A Feeling” is glorious, Alexander Shofler lays down a beautiful vocal solo and then turns up the energy for the track’s final verses. “Only A Feeling” is easily the best track on the EP, encompassing a replay value so high you’ll feel like a kid again.
“Smile” starts out as a fresh deep house track, but gradually forms into this growling flow effect of raw rhythms, something I’ve never quick heard of or had to explain before. The complex and original experience of “Smile” touched on my love for great music theory, which the track boldly features.
“Convince Myself feat. Jay Sneed” is an solid exit track for the self-entitled EP, showcasing an epic blend of melodic vocals, hip-hop, 8-bit, and pop.The creative construction of “Convince Myself” forms a memorable dialog spoken throughout the stylish beats and vocal verses.
As the track fades with a sick 8-bit outro, I walk away thinking I finally found a team of artist that understand how to take electronic productions a step further; a team who listens to all forms of electronic, focuses on a few key styles, and puts a spin this knowledge in the studio. If you don’t include Alexander Shofler & The Supertraxxe on your music radar now, don’t worry. They’ll be unavoidable stars in a few short years to come, their self-entitled EP is the beginning example of how they’ll do it.
