Alice Glass from the indie electronic duo, Crystal Castles, announced on Twitter yesterday that she would be leaving the band to pursue her own artistic direction. For anyone that grew up in the electronic generation, we can pretty much thank CC for building our young “EDM” palettes (and hipster cred) with their experimental, often creepy (but awesome) lo-fi sound. Going to a Crystal Castles show was a one of a kind experience; an ethereal mixture of a goth band and analog.
Although we’re deeply saddened by this news, we’re all for artists wanting to explore their own forms of creative expression. Jamming to CC for almost a decade, they have dozens of iconic tunes recognizable by the first bar, and have truly pioneered the witch house genre. There’s still three remarkable albums (titled: I, II, III) to throw back to, and we sincerely wish Alice the best.
I am leaving Crystal Castles.

My art and my self-expression in any form has always been an attempt towards sincerity, honesty, and empathy for others. — ALICE GLASS (@ALICEGLASS) October 8, 2014
For a multitude of reasons both professional and personal I no longer feel that this is possible within CC.

Although this is the end of the band, I hope my fans will embrace me as a solo artist in the same way they have embraced Crystal Castles. — ALICE GLASS (@ALICEGLASS) October 8, 2014
