Hip hop legend Nas brings some nasty lyricism to the [FORBES] late Amy Winehouse’s pre-recorded 2008 track, “Like Smoke”. This news comes after the announcement that her posthumous album Lioness: Hidden Treasures would drop December 5th. Highly impressed by the lyricism by Nas and I think you will agree with my feeling that it is similar with his old school rhythm [kind of like this].While the original hooks were recorded in ’08, Nas just recently laid the rhymes over top which I considered to not only be relevant to our times, such as references to the Occupy Movement, but also his to his own personal tribulations.
I can see some calling the pity card and saying Nas is exploiting an unfortunate situation. I would totally disagree, instead considering it some musical justice merely honoring a fallen great. Not only is it a tasty mix of genres but a rap legend goes in on it too. That’s gonna get people listening to Amy whom otherwise never normally would have taken the chance. The two were also close prior to the death so it isn’t like he just swooped in. How could anyone even disagree?
Here is the track peoples. I invite you to discuss your feelings about this with me on my Tweetline.
