It’s the Halloween season, and you know what that means – producers are dropping their rawest, darkest tracks. Inspired by RL Grime (who is known for his Halloween mixes), producer Aotu recently released a two-track EP called Warpath that is perfect for this time of year.
The first track, “Thunderhead,” is a suspenseful bass track, both dark and melodic. The first half feels like the prelude to something truly sinister, until the bass drops and it alternates between heaviness and something truly poppy. It’s constantly surprising and seems fitting for both a dark warehouse party or a movie soundtrack. The title track, “Warpath,” is fast-paced and anxiety-inducing in a delightful way. Its horn section is reminiscent of the Harry Potter soundtrack and the elephant noises (yep, that’s right) add a sense of drama in a truly unique way.
Both productions layer a variety of sounds to create something rich and theatrical. We will definitely be watching Aotu to see what else is up his sleeve.
