As the line between genres becomes more blurred, groups like Argonaut & Wasp prosper. Their latest, Future Protocol, blends the best of both electronic and pop/rock worlds while conveying a relatable creative direction and message. I dived into the American duo’s latest and let it do it’s work.
Higher Ground
Dishing out a hotpot of sound, “Higher Ground” mixes disco, electro, pop, rock, and a bit of indie all within a great feeling 3-minute experience. The tune makes for a good-vibe opener and has the mind positively staged for what’s to come.
Stranger Lover (When You Came Into My Life)
“Stranger Lover” slows it down with abstract drums, passionate vocal verses, and perfectly timed mini-solos throughout. The background organ makes the track easy to coast through again and again.
Pistol Pump Funk
The names basically screams uniqueness is bound to be found inside. “Pistol Pump Funk” brings out the disco and harmonies for a classic sounding original that fantastically combines the old with the new.
Crystal Stills
The finale track “Crystal Stills” is easily the cliche closer track we all know too well. Yet, on this one, Argonaut & Wasp get ridiculously soulful. Shredding out sweet solos and intrigue melodies before closing the EP subtly.
Argonaut & Wasp’s album contains a key facet that sells me on an EP/LP experience: each track is dynamic and individualistic it’s own, but still maintains common musical themes throughout the EP. Listen to Future Protocol above and learn more about Argonaut & Wasp below.
