While making our way around the festival circuit this summer we caught a set at F.A.R.M Fest in New Jersey by Ben Davis, aka Vibe Street. His unique Grasshop style put his music on our radar and we’ve been following his progress and musical journey since.
Davis released his latest EP She Makes Me Feel last month, adding another album to his rapidly growing discography. This EP is a continuation of his sound from his first, The Road To Something Perfect, as he keeps the funk and bluegrass but delves into some deeper emotions.
The first track “Something From Outer Space” is some bluesy Vibe Street, with a Buddy Guy vocal and a funky beat to revamp the classic tune. After “Don’t Run Away From Magic” you begin to settle into the album when you’re hit with “Set You Free”, a noticeably darker track reminiscent of Pretty Lights, whom Davis cites as his greatest inspiration. We’re then taken even deeper into Davis’ mind on “Take Care” before being brought back to a happy place on “Down Soft and Low” which has us wishing for warm summer vibes instead of this freezing winter weather.
The unique vocal sampling and sounds that Davis utilizes in his music is what attracted us to Vibe Street; who else is incorporating Bluegrass or a “Bare Necessities” cover of the classic Jungle Book into their sets? This innovation is what jumps off the page at us and keeps us coming back for another listen. Check out his latest EP below and dig into his discography on his SoundCloud.
