Deep house has gradually gained prominence over the last few years. Artists like Disclosure, Flume, and Duke Dumont have introduced aspects of deep house to a larger audience with massive success. These artists tend to employ catchy, soulful vocals with deep synths and extended build-ups. A duo based in LA is taking the concept behind deep house and adjusting it to fit a big room sound. Enter the Bixel Boys.
Hailing from Venice, California, Ian and Rob represent the Bixel Boys. The duo stands apart from many other producers in their crafting of a very distinct sound. They combine elements of deep house, nudisco, future bass, and trap to create songs destined to light up dance floors.
Their recently released EP, Bring It On, serves as a great introduction to their music. “Bring It On” combines rapid beats, high pitched vocal splices, and a melody which resembles horns heard at sporting events. The song builds up with a tropical-esque beat and brings everything together in a stunning conclusion. “CPR” incorporates elements of acid house with deep bass lines. Much like classic house songs, the track builds to a seemingly unrelated noise “(in this case an ECG beeping) and transitions the original melody back as it develops with new synths.
After appearing on the Snowball and Mad Decent Boat Party lineups, Bixel Boys seemed primed to take over 2014. Their music provides a great segway into deeper sounds while innovating the often stale aspects found in big room electro house. They prove that new artists can develop a very personal and original sound, a quality often lost in the never ending pursuit of making the next big track. With support from artists like Diplo, A-Trak, and RL Grime, the Bixel Boys future music will definitely gain momentum as some of the most innovative in electronic dance music.
#freelife indeed.
