I was first introduced to MitiS during Euphoria Music Festival, and I remember being blown away by how melodic his music was. It was like a chorus of angels met dubstep, decided to have a love-child and call it “heaven-step”. His music makes me feel like I’m in a fairytale told by music, and his EP Born was probably one of my most listened-to EPs this Spring.
Not only does he produce amazing uplifting music, he’s a very nice, humble guy. Growing up in Pennsylvania, Joe Torre started out as a concert pianist and played in large venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center and in 2011, MitiS was “born” and he started creating the celestial tunes we love today.
He started gaining popularity with his Deliverance EP which debuted about a year ago, and since his release of Born in May, his popularity has taken off like wild-fire. His biggest hits include “Born (Vocal Mix)” with vocalist Colin McLoughlin and his remix of Krewella’s “Alive” He’s been working on a ton of new stuff including his new EP Open Window, a Fall U.S. Tour, merchandise, and a bunch of new tracks. Expect to see much more from this artist, as his production skills are phenomenal and his style is unmatched.
He not only produces relaxing tunes, but as you can hear in his new EP he’s been experimenting much more with the heavier dubstep sounds. He played a free set last night on Mixify. Listen to his set and you’ll see that he not only brings the melody, but also the heat.
Interview:
You started out as a classical pianist, what made you get involved in Electronic music?
The music itself. The atmosphere that I felt when I first heard a Trance track got me hooked. It was Tiesto’s track “Just Be”. I still listen to the song often.
How is your new EP Open Window different from Born?
I think the whole spectrum of the EP overall is a whole different feel/vibe. I’ve realized that tracks like “Born” and “Blu” are really hard to play live. Club/Venue atmospheres are always so high-energy. I always throw them in my set, but I’ve been shaping my sound to be a much more Club-Friendly sound. So, that being said, I think it’s a much more up-tempo, harder feel, but still melodic EP.
What city are you most excited to visit on your new tour Change Will Come?
At the moment, besides my home town Philly, Colorado. I hear they go ape shit.
A different feel. I want my live show to be both hype as hell, but also allow the audience to have an emotional connection with the music being played.
What is your opinion on giving away music?
I LOVE IT. But really, I do believe in giving away music. I’ve sold a decent amount of records, but in the long run it’s not much money. Big labels and all that stuff obviously helps, but there are so many fans who don’t have the money to even pay to come to a show, let alone an EP or track. I try to personally keep a happy middle ground of selling/free downloads.
Lots of water, Coronas, good people, my computer, clean socks.
What can we expect from MitiS in the future?
A lot of new music, new things, clothes, websites, and bunches of surprises that are coming up.
Mark my words, MitiS will be doing big things in the future. Look to see him selling out huge venues and headlining major festivals. Check out his music, you won’t be disappointed.
