With the beginning of the new year, the spots in the BBC Radio 1 Residency are being turned over to new artists. For the next two months, we’ll be profiling each new host (or group of hosts) and giving you an introduction to their music. With the first show of the new year, we’ll be starting with TQD.
TQD is a garage supergroup from Great Britain. It’s made up of members Royal-T, DJ Q and Flava D. Each of them specialize in making garage and grime, and together they make heavy hitting music.
After having released many records individually, they joined up in March of 2017 to release their debut album as a group. UKG is a heavy hitting garage record that his its fair share of dancefloor bangers featuring sufficiently wobbly bass-lines to get listeners moving (you can listen here).
Their radio show follows the same mold. It’s an hour of energetic garage, grime, and bassline house tunes that encourage the listener to move their feet. As with any radio show comprising of multiple emcees, chemistry is important on air, and you can tell these three are good friends. Their light banter contrasts with the heavy music to give listeners a great experience. As a bonus, on the first show they featured exclusive and unreleased tracks, and promised to do it in their following shows. If they continue using the Residency as a vehicle to premier music, it’ll be even more reason to listen to this fun and talented trio operate the airwaves.
TQD set a high standard with their first show, but we’re just getting started with the talent that BBC Radio 1 Residency is featuring this year.
