Tim Bergling, or more popularly known as Avicii all over the world, is not only a Swedish DJ, but also a record producer and remixer. He was included in the Top 100 list of DJs by DJ Magazine in 2011 at the number 6 spot, and ranked at number 3 in 2012.
Early Career
Tim Bergling was born on September 8th, 1989, in Stockholm, Sweden. When he was at the age of 18, he started doing various remixes and producing tracks of his own right in his bedroom. Then, when his friends discovered the talent that he has been keeping all to himself, they finally got to convince him to upload all of his works on different music blogs, thus leading him to obtain a massive following and eventually support from one of the most legendary producers and DJs of all time, Tiesto.
He also gained support from Pete Tong, who released his debut single “Manman” via his Bedroom Bedlam label. Eventually, in May 2008, Avicii was able to get signed into At Night Management.
He never tried to get caught up in a certain subgenre of house, but he wanted to maintain the productions innovative and up to date. Among his many influences, some of them include Laidback Luke, Tiesto, Armand Van Helden, Eric Prydz, Steve Angello, Daft Punk and Axwell.
Musical Production and Discography
Avicii’s discography consists of 2 compilation albums, 28 singles and over 45 remixes all under his stage names Avicii, Tom Hangs and Tim Berg. In 2010, EMI released one of his tracks “Bromance” as a vocal rendition and re-titled it as “Seek Bromance”. The song emerged in the top 20 in numerous countries including France, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In 2011, he made a collaboration track, “Sunshine”, along with David Guetta and was nominated for a Grammy in the catergory for Best Dance Recording.
As of now, his most popular and notable song all over the world has been the single “Levels”, which was released officially in October 2011. The single had already been an amazing hit, especially in the world of electronic music, all throughout 2011, but right after its release, it greatly became a big mainstream hit. This led to Avicii’s increasing popularity internationally.
Avicii wrote the song entirely himself, which holds a vocal feature from the gospel-inspired song by Etta James, “Something’s Got a Hold on Me”. It entered the top ten in various countries such as Austria, India, Germany, Greece, Ireland, The Netherlands, Italy and the UK while topping the charts in Norway, Hungary and of course, Sweden.
In April 2012, Avicii released another single, “Silhouettes”, which features Salem Al Fakir’s vocals and the song reached the number 5 spot on the UK Dance charts and the 4th spot on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs.
2013 has shown that Avicii is gaining more and more attention as he was nominated at the Grammy’s for Best Dance Recording with his song, “Levels”. He was nominated among other great artists like Skrillex, Calvin Harris, and Swedish House Mafia.
