Legendary DJ A-Trak has announced the inaugural Goldie Awards, a head-to-head DJ competition involving mixing, scratching, and a beat battle. Finalists are being selected now, and will compete live on September 7th at Brooklyn Steel, NYC’s new massive general admission venue.
The Goldie Awards aims to feature some of the top technical DJs, and competitors will be judged based on their skill, creativity, and crowd response. Both the DJ battle and the beat battle will feature 6 finalists in the first round, with only 2 moving on to the second and final round. This is a similar format to the competitions in which A-Trak began his career, as he grew to stardom after winning a number of DJ battles – most notably, the DMC World DJ Championship, which he won at just 15 years old.
A-Trak has rounded up an insanely talented array of producers as judges, so Goldie Awards attendees will get to hear commentary on each performance from familiar faces such as Diplo, Mija, Destructo, Just Blaze, Mannie Fresh, Craze and The Hooligan.
