Last night mainstream electronic dance music made history during the American Music Awards. Avicii won the first ever “Favorite Artist of EDM” award in a battle between himself, Calvin Harris, Zedd, and electronic icons Daft Punk. Nominees were determined by record sales, social media, and airplay, among other factors – over several months (December 2012 through September 2013).
It’s great to see popular acts like Avicii, Zedd, and Calvin Harris on massive stages accepting phenomenal awards. This is a giant leap for the EDM scene and hopefully one day we’ll see several electronic based awards that encompass a bigger variety of styles.
